Love Hope Strength

A nonprofit organization

At Love Hope Strength we turn concerts into lifesaving events. Through our GET ON THE LIST campaign we register marrow donors resulting in matches from concerts around the world. Through unique events, like Everest Rocks and Kilimanjaro Rocks, we build cancer centers, giving people access to early detection and quality cancer care.

Testimonials

"Short of having my children and falling blissfully in love, this has been the single most moving, humbling, difficult and positive experience of my life." ~ Glenn Tilbrook, Squeeze, Everest Rocks, Fuji Rocks, Kilimanjaro Rocks participant

"I hope I never complain about anything ever again. I've felt aches and pains while watching porters carry massive wooden poles wearing flip-flops." ~ Jamie West Oram, The Fixx, Everest Rocks participant

"I thought it would be an amazing opportunity to give back to an incredible organization, but had no clue it would be as emotional of a trip as it was. We had a great time climbing Mt. Fuji, and even though my legs hurt for days afterward, it was one of the most unbelievable experiences of my life. I am so excited to stay involved with this organization and continue to help them in the fight against cancer." ~Donavon Frankenreiter, Fuji Rocks, Kauai Rocks participant

"The success of Love Hope Strength at 3 years is where LiveSTRONG was at 7 years" ~ Senior Manager, LiveSTRONG.

"Words fail. Though I can say I feel at peace and an awesome sense of accomplishment. You have my eternal and sincere gratitude."~ Robin Wilson, The Gin Blossoms, having just completed Kilimanjaro Rocks.

"A friend of mine just sent me a link to your site and I was really impressed. I watch the documentary on the Everest trip (amazing). I am a two time Leukemia survivor who just got a Bone Marrow Transplant on July 26th. Your work to raise awareness and sign people up makes a difference. My donor was at a similar event in January of this year and decided to join the registry. Thankfully she did because she was a perfect match. I am now 70 days post transplant and feeling great." ~ Glenn, transplant recipient

"Please let James know my girlfriend's mother lost her battle with Cancer Sunday. She was 69 years old. She is wearing the Love Hope Strength wristband in the casket, she wore it every day since I gave it to her." ~ Joe, cancer supporter

"Hello Mr. Chippendale, My mom and I met you at the More To Live For premiere at Highland Park in Dallas last year. I'm not sure if you still remember me but my then 6-year- old brother had leukemia and I was his donor (I was 12 years old). I am now 13. Anyway, the reason I am writing you is that I am doing a research paper for my class and would like to get a hold of a copy of the documentary. I am hoping through this, I can bring awareness among my peers. Please let me know where I can find the dvd or if you have an extra copy I would love to get a hold of one. Thank you for helping raise awareness for bone marrow registry. I think highly of your work and commend your generosity. You have truly been a role model for kids like me and I hope that someday I can grow up to be the man that you are. Thanks, J"

Mission

Love Hope Strength Foundation, (LHS) is a music-centric charity dedicated to saving the lives of people with cancer one concert at a time. LHS was founded in 2007 by leukemia survivors Mike Peters (of the Welsh rock band The Alarm) and James Chippendale (president of CSI Entertainment). As the world's leading rock-and-roll cancer foundation, LHS primarily raises its funds through musical pilgrimages to majestic sites like Mt. Everest, Mt. Fuji and Machu Picchu.

Rather than funding cancer research, LHS focuses on building and supporting cancer centers around the world, boosting awareness of global cancer needs, and expanding international bone marrow databases. One of LHS's many accomplishments include purchasing Nepal's first mammography and internal radiation machines and funding the construction of the first children's cancer center in Tanzania.

Through its partnership with DKMS US (the world's largest marrow registry), LHS also frequently heads up bone marrow drives at concerts and major musical events like Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival and Austin City Limits. With over thousands of drives conducted, LHS has added over 150,000 people to the national marrow database and found over 3,000 matches for patients in need of bone marrow transplants.

Background Statement

Cancer is the world's #1 killer and will touch each and every one of us in our lifetime. It is a global issue in need of support from a worldwide network. In 2007, LHSF was co-founded by leukemia survivors Mike Peters of the Welsh rock band The Alarm and President of CSI Entertainment James Chippendale who believe that awareness, early detection and proper treatment should not be a luxury and wanted to find a way to ensure that all people have access to the same resources that saved their lives.
