Help put Durango area kids with risk factors through a 5-week Adventure Therapy program designed to mentor middle and high school age kids to build character and protective factors using snowboarding. SOS Outreach (SOS), in partnership with Durango Mountain Resort and the Durango 9-R school district, links kids with adult mentors (Sherpas) and snowboard instructors to provide them a chance to complete a snowboard program structured around the SOS Core Values of Courage, Discipline, Integrity, Wisdom and Compassion. When our kids graduate the SOS Durango Learn to Ride Program they can apply for the ensuing 4 Year SOS University Program where they are matched with a Sherpa, and continue learning about the 5 Core Values not only through snowboarding, but through community service, goal setting, vocational skills learning, and many other meaningful endeavors that help them overcome the risk factors in their lives.

At the end of their 5 years with SOS they are then eligible to become Junior Sherpas and mentor kids just like themselves, with the continued guidance of the adult mentors (Sherpas) in their lives.

The SOS programs are based on best practices in the areas of character education, building resiliency, and adventure therapy. For more information about SOS, a 501 C 3, non-profit organization, founded in 1993, please visit SOSOutreach.org.

We are fortunate to enjoy the generosity of Durango Mountain Resort, many businesses and charitable donors in the Four Corners area, and benefit from partnerships like those with the 9R School District and the San Juan BOCS to get our kids involved in the SOS programs, but we still need your help to keep the programs alive here in Durango. We are putting 100+ kids through SOS Durango this year! SOS Durango has served kids from Durango High School, Escalante and Miller Middle Schools and Robert DeNier Youth Services Center. It costs just over $300 to send one student through the five-week program, and your contribution goes directly to SOS Durango.

Let's stay committed to helping our kids grow up with all the support they need to be healthy, strong and contributing members of our community. Invite your Friends to Donate!
