Testimonials

"Now more than ever we need to protect and preserve places that help teach the lessons of local history. Four Mile Historic Park needs your support every year to maintain and enhance this very special piece of our history. Your support for Four Mile Historic Park helps us reach Colorado students each year to educate them about the importance of buildings, land and people and their relationship to water, transportation, and agriculture. Join us in keeping Four Mile Historic Park alive by contributing as an Annual Giver" - Charlie and Karin Woolley"

"Thank you for all the things you have done for us. I appreciate it. Thank you for paying for us, having fun, letting us visit, and for welcoming us. I also thank you all for the activities like the carriage ride, gold mining, and I learned many things about how Colorado was before. I learned that many things are important more than they look. Sincerely, Wendy" - 4th Grader

"Thank you for inviting us. Thank you for letting us gold mine, helping us learn about how people lived in the old times, the wagon ride, and cooking food. Most of all, thank you for the free field trip. Yours Truly, Samy" - Kemp Elementary Field Trip

"(My son) got in the car and exclaimed, 'That was AWESOME! This is the best camp ever' And it's been to several so that's saying a lot. He talked about it non-stop all the way to the sitters house and can't wait until tomorrow. We'll definitely be regulars!" - Summer Camper Parent

"This annual field trip would not be possible without outside funding. Although many of our students live in Glendale, within walking distance of the Park, they had never been inside the gate. They simply do not have the money needed to purchase admission. Holly Hills is a Title 1 school where over 65% of our students receive free breakfast/lunch. Many of our students are being raised by a single parent, some are refugees from other countries, and most have had little opportunity to visit all that Denver has to offer educationally. We simply could not afford this trip without the help of others. Thank you for your consideration of a highly successful, wildly popular, educational program." - 4th grade teacher

Mission

The mission of the Four Mile Historic Park is to educate a diverse community through experiences which promote preservation, interpretation and enjoyment of Denver's Western heritage.

Background Statement

Four Mile Historic Park is a gateway to Denver's Western heritage, offering a vibrant 12-acre oasis with a working farm and Denver's oldest standing structure, the Four Mile House Museum. The museum houses an extensive collection of mid to late 1800s western artifacts, serving educational, historical, curatorial, and research purposes. Proudly acting as a custodian of cultural treasures, the museum evolves with contemporary approaches to artifact interaction, aspiring to be an immersive cultural attraction that goes beyond traditional museum settings. Visitors actively participate in a dynamic experience that brings history to life.

The Park is a hub of cultural and outdoor exploration, offering a diverse array of educational programs centered around Colorado history. Guided tours of the iconic Four Mile House, field trips, and outreach programs provide an immersive journey into the past, allowing visitors to connect with the heritage that has shaped Denver.

Beyond the educational offerings within the Four Mile House Museum and across the farm, Four Mile curates year-round signature events and partnership programs. These initiatives aim to enhance the visitor experience, fostering lasting memories for all who engage with the Park.

In total, Four Mile welcomed more than 61,000 guests this year participating in a diverse array of educational programs, partnerships, and signature events.

This year introduced Bright Nights at Four Mile, a collaboration with Tianyu Arts & Culture, Inc., the largest producer of Chinese lantern festivals in North America. This event transforms the Park into a captivating realm with larger-than-life sculptures illuminating the night across its 12 acres. Each year brings a fresh theme, new experiences, and captivating sculptures.
