Testimonials

"Our family is fortunate that my husband and I are well-educated, we have strong support of our families and friends, and we have access to many resources in the community to help us raise our daughter. By far one of the most important resources has been our RMPAT Parent Educator. Her work with and on behalf of our family has been nothing short of excellent. The larger RMPAT organization is a great asset to our community. The long-range goal of RMPAT's administrators and benefactors should be no less than to provide the service of Parent Educators to every parent and care giver who seeks their support and guidance in the Rocky Mountain Region."
- Paula, Ph.D.

"I tell everyone I know that being a mother is the hardest, most rewarding job I've ever had. Our RMPAT parent educator gives us the tools and the motivation to be the best parents we can. A price cannot be put on the value of the tools, skills and reassurance we have received as parents from this program. My family and I are so thankful to our parent educator and the RMPAT organization for all that they do."
-Shahara

"One of the tools our parent educator supplied us with that I haven't read anywhere else (and I've read a lot) was introducing emotions to my children; introducing different ways for my children to acknowledge the emotions they are feeling and, consequently, how to deal with them. Much of what I mentioned may seem obvious to others, but when you're dealing with life, it's not, and you really need that outside observer who's always on your side to offer support and encouragement because raising children is the hardest and most important job in the world...You need all the help you can get and RMPAT gives you what you need."
-Michelle

"What was most valuable for me about Rocky Mountain Parents as Teachers was the part that is hard to quantify: the ongoing emotional support provided by our parent educator as I was navigating the murky waters of parenting."
-Jennifer

Background Statement

In 1989, a former school principal founded RMPAT to address significant gaps that he had seen in the school preparedness of many children-especially those from low-income and minority families. He chose the best-practice Parents as Teachers (PAT) model because of its demonstrated efficacy in helping children from at-risk families achieve school-readiness as well as its foundation in child development research.

Now an international affiliate of Parents as Teachers National Center and member of the Colorado Parents as Teachers, RMPAT is a stellar example of the PAT program's effectiveness in equipping parents and families with the training, tools and supports they need for children to succeed in school.

Unfortunately, the issue that prompted RMPAT's founding still exists and the need for parent education far outweighs service capacity in the Denver area. To address this gap, RMPAT targets high-need families that are not eligible for other programs' services.
