Nonprofit Participant Policies

Each charity has its own policies regarding privacy of donor information. Please contact the charities you contribute to directly to learn about their privacy policies.

The following explains our privacy policy in more detail.

Our Policy

At our site we don't collect personally identifiable information about individuals unless they knowingly provide it to us. So, if you just want to browse and learn about nonprofit services, programs, and benefits, we invite you to do so. If you are a casual, unregistered visitor to our site, we'll recognize the IP address from which you access the Internet (e.g., 123.234.345.456, or earthlink.com) but not your e-mail address or any other personal or system information. Once you provide us with personal or professional information, that data remains confidential and will only be used by Community First Foundation and the charity to which you donated. Charities to which you donate through GivingFirst.org will receive your name, address, email, phone number, date of donation, the amount of the donation, whether the donation is recurring, the frequency of any recurring gifts, any specifications you've made about your gift, and whether you want your gift to be anonymous on the charities' annual reports. Community First Foundation shares this information with the charities so that they have the opportunity to send you a thank you letter. We believe in strengthening the relationship between nonprofits and donors, and an important aspect of that is for nonprofits to be able to thank their supporters. We also authorize our employees to view your personal information only when necessary to serve you better. Aside from Community First Foundation and the charities you donate to, we will not share any information you provide to us with any other organization.

Security Online

When you use our forms to donate through GivingFirst.org, our web site ensures that the information sent between your computer and our system is transmitted in a secure fashion, using the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption method for all such submissions. This method is generally accepted to ensure that any information you transmit to our web site cannot be read if intercepted by some third party. Some common browsers, i.e. Internet Explorer, make it obvious when information is being passed in a secure manner by displaying either a completed key or a closed lock on the screen.

GivingFirst.org has a Server Gated Cryptography (SGC)-enabled SSL Certificate from VeriSign, the Web's Most Trusted Security Provider. VeriSign is the SSL Certificate provider of choice for over 95% of the Fortune 500 and the world's 40 largest banks. They trust VeriSign because of their encryption technology and rigorous business authentication practices and so do we. The level of encryption is determined by your Web browser, your computer's operating system, and the SSL Certificate. Depending on these factors, our SSL certificate uses encryption from 40 bits to 250 bits. Unless you are using Internet Explorer browser versions prior to 3.02 or Netscape browser versions prior to 4.02, the level of encryption will be at least 128 bits.

We then use Authorize.net to process credit card information. The Authorize.net Customer Information Manager (CIM) allows us to store your sensitive payment information on Authorize.net's secure servers, simplifying payments for returning customers and recurring transactions. It also helps us comply with the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard, since customer credit card data is not stored locally on our servers.

Cookies

We use cookies to store visitors' preferences, record session information, such as items that donors add to their giving cart, alert visitors to new areas that we think might be of interest to them when they return to our site, and record past activity at our site in order to provide better service when visitors return to our site.
