Capitol Hill Community Services (CHCS) has been feeding the homeless and poor in Central Denver since 1984. Starting with a once a week meal in a Capitol Hill church, we now have 4 sites that serve over 50,000 hot meals every year. We were incorporated in 1986. We are governed by a 14 member Board of Directors who donate their time.
CHCS always serves hearty, nutritious meals at lunch time. We have never served soup, but offer a protein/charbohydrate entree, a vegetable, salad, bread and somethimes desert. We rely on donated food and volunteers to serve the meals.
Capitol Hill Community Services (CHCS) serves hot meals throughout the year to help the poor get back on theri feet. It is hard to think about getting a job or a place to live when you are hungry.
CHCS maximizes community resources to provide good nutrition to those that really need it. Our menus are based on what we receive and, although they are inventive, the meals are always very good, nutritious and hot.
CHCS is consevatively managed and spends very little outside of direct meal operations. Our office rent is $225 a month, we use over 200 volunteers and our staff is 1 full and 3 part time employees.
We have monthly bookkeeping donated by a CPA firm and we have annual audits done by an different, independent CPA.

Capitol HillCommunity Services exists to help the homeless and poor return to a better situation. Our small staff and large volunteer corps do that by serving excellent meals that come from community "excess" food. Nothing is wasted.
The Board of Directors join me in making sure that our expenses are kept to a minimum. In addtion to our regular business meetings, we all volunteer at our largest site, 18th & Broadway, four times a year.
it is hard to find a small non-profit agency that does so much with so little. Our deticated staff and volunteers have been helping those is real need since 1984.
