Background Statement

BCAP was founded in 1985 to serve the needs of the AIDS pandemic. BCAP become quickly known as a strong, motivated force caring for those infected with HIV/AIDS and also families whose loved one was infected but not living in the Boulder area. In 1985 we had 49 clients. In 2009 we have 202 clients.

Executive Director Statement

2008 brought unique challenges to those who work to support those living with HIV in the state of Colorado. The cost of managing HIV disease has increased along with all other forms of health care. Coupled with the economic stressors we are all facing, including the current deficits facing our federal and state government, Boulder County AIDS Project has seen a 10% increase in requests for our services – we now serve over 200 persons living with HIV in Boulder, Broomfield, Gilpin and Clear Creek Counties.

We are challenged and inspired to find new resources to support, enhance and improve our work. We are committed to continue as an information resource and to provide an inclusive, safe and welcoming space to all who seek services in Boulder and Longmont. We are seek an innovative, sustainable, and collaborative response to the needs of those who receive a new diagnosis of HIV this week as well as those who have been living with the disease for over twenty years now. And we are only too aware of the stigma our clients face each day reminding us that our work is far from over.

Finally, 2008 is the year that the Ryan White Care Act sunsets. As this is written we still do not have a national commitment to continue to support the needs of people living with HIV in the United States. We support the creation of a national AIDS strategy that will allow for a three-year extension of this critical program with minimal changes. It is vital that we ensure comprehensive services continue for those who are vulnerable and in great need in our community. We support health care reform that will increase access to quality health care and lifesaving medications for all people living HIV/AIDS. Finally we support a national commitment to ensure evidence-based prevention efforts that will reduce the transmission of HIV. These include a national syringe exchange program and comprehensive sex education across our service area.

You can play a vital role. Your contribution today can ensure our clients who are losing their housing or having to chose between medical care and food on the table for their kids have support. We know that many have been impacted by the financial challenges we currently face. Send your donation today to support your neighbor who is also managing a life-threatening illness during these hard times. We are all in this together. We invite you to help us make a difference.

Board Chair/President Statement

As many local non-profits feel the economic pinch, I am increasingly proud to be a part of Boulder County AIDS Project and the work we do to not only help those who need assistance with housing and medical needs, but who also live with HIV/AIDS. BCAP is a shining light to those infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS in our community and your support means direct assistance to those in need and direct support for one of the strongest HIV prevention programs in the country.
